I don't know about you, but autumn is one of my favourite times of the year - a season of the soul. There's just something about those last rays of sunshine pouring through the golden yellow leaves of our pecan trees. It is also a time in aesthetic medicine where we are reminded how necessary it is to keep on nourishing and renewing our skin to see results in "spring".
So here are my top Aesthetic treatments to do during Autumn and Winter - because as we know - the flowers that are cared for best during winter, blooms the best in spring.
Chemical Peels improve the texture of your skin through the application of a chemical agent which removes dead skin cells and thus promotes the growth of new skin cells. Chemical Peels can address a multitude of skincare concerns including fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, age spots and acne (to only name a few). While chemical peels are great to have year-round, it is advised to stay out of the sun for a few days afterwards - which is so much easier to do during cooler months.
Our skin usually gets a bit duller during Autumn and Winter and there is no better way to get that fresh-faced glow than a chemical peel.
A chemical peel will also increase product penetration by removing those dead skin cells - and if you're anything like me you need all the product penetration you can get during these drier months.
2. Microneedling
This minimally invasive procedure is famous and for good reason - it is clinically proven to stimulate collagen production by up to 400%...the only downside - you guessed it - sun exposure is a big no; which is why it is such a great treatment to do in the cooler months.
A minimum of 6 to 9 sessions are recommended initially and thereafter every 2 to 3 months for maintenance - so ultimately some of your treatments will spill over into the warmer months of the year, but its a good idea to start of your sessions during Autumn.
There are also numerous treatments that can be "added on" to microneedling - probably the most famous is PRP (or platelet rich plasma) or the Vampire Facial which was made famous by the Kardashians. Blood is drawn and then spun in a centrifuge in order to separate your plasma (or liquid gold) from your blood. The plasma, which is full of growth factors and stem cells, is then microneedled into your skin for amped up rejuvenation.
3. Profhilo ®
Profhilo is a revolutionary treatment that causes bio-remodeling. It contains the purest form of Hyaluronic acid in high concentrations and is injected beneath the skin in what we call a BAP technique to ensure adequate product spread. This stimulates collagen and elastin improving skin quality and providing an overall rejuvenated, hydrated look - giving you an unmistakable glow (even in the dullest of months)
Atleast 2 treatments are recommended (a month apart) and thereafter every 6 to 9 months for maintenance.
4. Liposculpting
Because no one is going in a bikini or speedo any time soon - the cooler months is a great time to do body treatments like liposculpting - leaving you with more than enough time to recover for beach season. The procedure involves an anaesthetic /numbing solution to be injected below the skin and thereafter fat is permanently sucked out via a cannula. It is usually a once off procedure and afterwards a tight garment is worn to ensure better healing and results. Stitches are removed after two weeks and if necessary lymph drainage and radiofrequency cavitation is done in areas of induration.
5. Lip Filler
My dry, chapped lips arrive like clockwork every year as soon as Autumn arrive and no amount of lip balm seems to do the trick. My solution has been to get a bit of lip filler done during this time - not only does it give me an amazing framework to apply those beautiful winter lipstick colours, but also provides massive relief in terms of hydration and moisture to my lips.
6. Skinboosters
Lower temperatures and humidity leads to drier air which causes the skin to loose hydration and moisture - and those long hot showers and baths (that strips or skin of its natural protective layer) with a heater on all night isn't helping the situation. This is where skinboosters come in - made of hyaluronic acid and administered through a series of microinjections or a cannula technique provides instant moisture and hydration to the skin whilst also stimulating collagen and elastin production. They are not only an amazing treatment for the face and neck, but can also be used on hands and décolletage with wonderful results.
So there you a have it - a complete guide of aesthetic treatments to include in your Autumn/Winter routine should the thought of these drier months send scaly-lizard-like shivers down your spine.
